Unfortunately it is not possible to insure every dog.
In 1991 the UK introduced the Dangerous Dog Act with the intention of restricting illegal dog fighting. Since then the following breeds have not been allowed to be kept, and cannot be insured: -
Naturally, any cross-breed or mixed-breed of the above would also be uninsurable.
When an insurer provides pet insurance cover they do so on the basis that the dog is simply a pet. This limits the risk of injury and focusses on the health of the animal over their anticipated lifetime. Should your dog fall into any of the above categories it will not be possible to obtain cover through K9 COVER and a more specialist provider must be sought.
There are also a small number of breeds which underwriters are not able to provide cover for. We don't list these as the boundaries can change each month, but please be assured our aim is to insure as many breeds as possible.
